　　Weiler教授从事地外样品稀有气体同位素研究已经有三十多年，1994年任Principal Investigator of NASA's lunar sample program，2006年至今任《Meteoritics & Planetary Science》编委会主席，参加Genesis和Itokawa空间探测项目并负责其样品的分配和稀有气体测量。因为Weiler教授对稀有气体同位素研究的重要贡献，2002年国际天文及陨石学会将一颗小行星命名为Rainerwieler。
　　The introduction of Professor Rainer: The world’s leading scientist of the field of noble gas in extraterrestrial material, the chairman of the board of “Meteoritics & Planetary Science”. In 2002, an asteroid was named as Rainerwieler by the international society of astronomy and meteoritics because of the contribution of Rainer to the field of noble gases isotopes.
